Submissions Process

To make a submission to the Illini Independent Film Festival (1-120 minutes), upload your video to Vimeo and provide us with a direct link. This will require first setting up a Vimeo account if you do not already have one, and the video must also be made available for download from the site. Following is a step-by-step guide explaining how to complete these tasks in accordance with submission guidelines. Please read through for important specific information even if you know how to upload a video to Vimeo!

1. Create a Vimeo account if needed.

The main page gives an immediate option to create an account, so fill that out and log in to your new account. Otherwise, just log in.

2. Upload the video.

Click on the “Upload” tab to upload a video. Choose the file from your computer and start the upload.

3. Fill out basic information.

In the “Title” field, type the name of the film. In the “Description” field, copy and paste the following form and fill it out for our records:

Name(s) of Creator(s):
Contact Email Address:
Category:
Duration:

4. Adjust privacy and the ability to download the video file.

We understand that some submitters do not want their submission publicly available online. For this reason, it is acceptable to switch the privacy setting to “Only people with a password.” If this is not a concern, it is okay to leave the privacy setting on “Anyone.”

Additionally, it is critical that the checkbox that says “Download the Video” is CHECKED, which gives us the needed ability to download the video file when needed for a variety of purposes. If anybody submitting is uncomfortable with having this Vimeo-quality download screened at the festival in the case that the film is selected to be shown, this box should still be checked regardless. We will provide alternate arrangements for physical or electronic submission of selected films upon request after the film has been selected for the festival.



5. Email Illini Independent Film Festival

Send an email with subject line “Film Festival Submission” to iiffsubmissions@gmail.com with a direct link to the uploaded video and the password required to watch it (if a password was set).

If selected, you will be contacted at your listed contact email address with notification of acceptance. At this time, if you would like to provide your own file for screening, email a response requesting this option online or notify us that you will be mailing a physical copy of the file, either on a data disk or a flash drive. Please provide a file in a common distribution format that will be compatible with our projection capabilities. We will do our best to convert films received in unplayable formats, but will screen the downloaded Vimeo file if necessary. Physical files can be mailed to the following address:

Note: This is NOT an opportunity to provide an updated or modified film from the original. Files received by mail or electronic submission will be reviewed to make sure that they are the same as the originals submitted on Vimeo. Please respect the selection process and provide the original, unmodified film selected for screening.
